Workshop: Don't forget the Polynesian Workshop on Sept 24th at the New Albany Holiday Inn. Charmaine will be teaching basic Hawaiian Tahitian with emphasis on Tahitian. Arm and hand movements as well as shimmies that can all be adapted into Middle-Eastern routines. The show that evening will be something not to be missed! Come and spend an evening in paradise and enjoy your favorite tropical drink, Pina Coladas, MaiTais, Daquiris, etc. We guarantee you will enjoy.
Special note: Mirage is expanding! Due to performance demands we are looking for a few more dancers. If you are interested and can give up two hours each Monday evening, are willing to work hard and learn new routines, please call and make an appointment for an introduction and audition. call Patti at ---.
The Jefferson Co. School will be starting their adult classes soon, on their list of offered classes is Belly Dancing. Some of our members will be teaching these classes. If you know anyone who would like to take a class, it is cheap and a lot of fun, help support our girls. Thanks!
Fact: Belly dancing began as a ritual, in the tribal sense, and then eveloved into folk art. Finally it was refined into artistic entertainment.
Editor's note: This is my first try as a Newsletter editor, I am not the world's greatest typing person (as you may have noticed). I have a lot of ideas and things I would like to see in the Newsletter. I just you will bare with me [sic] and after a few dry runs I will get my act together (it has been apart for about 3 months now) but I am getting back in the groove.
If you have any articles, recipes, announcements you would like to share with the rest of us, please call me or give it to me at the meeting. My deadline is the 5th of the month. The newsletter will be out by the middle of the month.
Did you forget, too? Last month's meeting was one for the books, a club with over 30 members and only 7 people showed up for it. Since there weren't enough people to have a meeting, we just said hello and goobye to those that did come out.
Please try to make it to this month's meeting, if you can. This is the meeting before our November Hafli, and I am sure tha tour friendly Hafli Chairperson, Roberta, will be looking for dancers. If you are unable to make it, and you would like to dance, work or sell tickets, please call Robera or me and let us know.
I would like to thank all of MEDSOK members that were able to come out ot Fort Knox and dance at the first International Veils Show on September 17. you were all just great, and did a wonderful job of entertaning.
We are losing one of our members, Bonnie M-, she is now on her way to Canada, but would like to remain a member of the club.
Thanks again,

Our elections are soon coming up, we vote in November. have you given any thought to being an officer or holding a committee? I hope we will see some new faces in office this year.
Workshop Review: On Sept 24th, Becky and I were lucky enough to be able to attend a fun day of Hawaiian & Tahitian Dance. We walk into the room and were greeted by the lovely sound of the islands, I turn to Becky and said "Oh, if it was only about 90 outside and not 35, I would think I was there (Hawaii)." But, of course, the day was at least a fantasy. Caharmaine did a great job and I think everyone that was there came away with something. We found out that there is a lot of the Mid-East dance in the Tahitian dance. They do the figure 8, like we do, and they also have shimmies. Everyone that was a belly dancer hand it made when it came to the Tahitian dance. I did enjoy the Hawaiian a lot, it is very slow and romantic, the music is so pretty. There were some older women there from the Hawaiian Club that never took a break the whole day, I am ashamed to say we did. It goes to show you that you are never too old to dance.
Thank you Patti for a day in the Islands, I am just sorry I didn't make it to the show that night. A real big thanks to Charmaine for the lessons.
