ISAMEDT Annual Costuming Workshop and Hafla

United Methodist Church club house (the old Fishers Lion´s Club House), Fishersville IN

No cost to ISAMEDT members. (MEDSOK members are ISAMEDT members)

Four costume workshops and a lunch-time presentation.

Vending by two professional vendors and ... YOU! Turn your unwanted dance items into cash at the workshop.

Shopping and Photo-shoot (in front of a backdrop) go on all day long. For photoshoot, bring your makeup, costume and accessories, special props and your camera. Experienced photography, makeup and modeling members are there to help.

If you want to dance in the hafla, sign up before 3:30 pm. Any ISAMEDT member can dance in the hafla, but workshop attendees get first choice of time slots. All skill levels welcome.

The workshop coordinators are looking for volunteers to help set up and run the workshop during the day.

9 amRegistration. Shopping and Photo Shoot all day long.
10 amHerbal Beauty Potions with Debby Harvey. Starts with a Hatha Yoga salute to the sun, followed by a lesson on the alchemy of herbal tea preparation, lotions and potions, creams, salves, herbal oils, facial masks and other herbal concoctions to sooth body and spirit.
11 amTribal Dance Wear with Black Rose Caravan. BRC will hold a brief demonstration of the various components of tribal wear. They will then show you how to make a unique turban, every time you put one on your head! If you want to try it yourself, bring:
  1. One 42-inch square scarf;
  2. One 18x80 rectangle of thin fabric;
  3. Accent scarves, as desired;
  4. Rubber band for your hair.
Noon
  • Lunch Lecture with Colletta Koshiba, a long time ISAMEDT member and dancer with Desert Winds: a slide presentation of her home-made costumes spanning the past 30 years. Costumers will find some inexpensive and easy costume tips in this presentation.
  • Potluck lunch during Lunch Lecture! Bring an item to share and enjoy lunch with friends at no extra cost.
1 pm
  • Make a Belly Dance Bracelet with Zoe. Bring $5 for supplies.
  • Several Sewing Fundamentals with Paige Brinnegar: seam finishes, hems, and embellishments!
Learn to hem!
3 pm
  • Afternoon Tea with Debby Harvey (ISAMEDT president).
  • Shop, do photo shoot.
3:30 pm
  • Deadline for signing up to perform in the Hafla.
  • ISAMEDT business meeting.
  • Supper on your own.
6 - 8 pmHafla! All skill levels welcome.

Location: The old Fishers Lion Club House, which was recently purchased by the United Methodist Church, is located on the SE corner of I-69 and 116 St in Fishers, Indiana, behind the United Methodist Church on Oak Road. From a Louisville point of view, it is located in Indianopolis.

Directions: To NE side of I-465 in Indiananopolis. State Road 37 (I-69) to 116th Street. This is the Fishers exit. Right (east) onto 116th Street. Immediately on the right is the United Methodist Church. Immediately after the church turn right (south) onto Oak Road. The Club House is a one-story red brick building directly behind the church, with plenty of free parking in front of the building. [MAPQUEST map]
