Mid-Eastern Dance Society of Kentuckiana presents:
COSTUMING
Sunday, May 17: MEDSOK presents: Costuming!
- 1:30
- short business meeting
- 2:00 - 3:45
- How to make a tribal hip belt from a Toran (indian door hanging):
- Tami will demonstrate the basic base belt, what it turns into and where you can get one;
- Kim or Jak will demonstate making tassels;
- Maura will demonstrate making a toran-like base from scratch and a way to attach tassels so they never come off;
- Perry will demonstrate ways to attach jingles to any tribal belt.
- 3:45 - 4:30:
- Fashion show. Members model costumes they made. After the costume parade there will be Q & A about the costumes.
- 4:30
- Members do a short dance in the costumes they made to demonstrate costume qualities in motion.
We are hoping Troupe Malek will perform something in their Toran belts.
During the entire afternoon, Perry and Zak will be selling their wares and Cheryl will be running the lending library. There will be the usual hot tea and refreshments.
The event is free, open to the public, and being held at Ruric's dance studio inside the Mellwood Arts center.
